EV Incentives in BC
Explore rebates for new EVs and chargers
Switching to an EV comes with many benefits, and the current financial rebates are a good incentive to take the plunge sooner rather than later.
Review the various EV rebates below to make sure you don’t miss out on the offers available to you. Remember to read up on the eligibility criteria of each program before making a purchase.

CleanBC Go Electric EV Charger Rebate Program offers funding up to $350. The program is now accepting applications as of October 31, 2023.
A BC Hydro $250 smart EV charger rebate is also available.
Apartment/condo EV charging rebates
There are two provincial rebate options to help apartment and condo buildings support EV charging.
The EV Ready, which is a set of three cohesive rebates for your project, is currently unavailable. It included:
- Up to $3,000 for creating an EV Ready plan for your building
- Up to $600 per parking stall to installing the electrical infrastructure to implement your plan
- Up to $1,400 per charger for purchasing and installing the chargers to implement your plan.
The standalone EV charger rebate is available and for a limited time, stratas, building owners or individual residents can apply for pre-approval for
to receive a rebate up to 50% of those costs to a maximum of $5,000 (regularly up to $2,000) per charger and $25,000 (regularly up to $14,000) per apartment/condo complex. Dual-port stations count as two chargers.

Workplace rebates
There are also provincial incentives for the purchase and installation of eligible EV chargers at workplaces, for a limited time, get rebates up to 50% of the costs to a maximum of $5,000 (regularly up to $2,000) per charger, and up to $25,000 (regularly up to $14,000) per workplace while funding lasts.
A business can apply for a maximum of four of their workplace sites, resulting in a maximum project rebate of up to $100,000 (regularly up $56,000). up to a maximum of $5,000 per charger.

Charger rebate top-ups may be available
Indigenous communities and some local governments are offering enhanced rebate offers. If your application is eligible for an enhanced offer, the value of your rebate payment will be adjusted automatically.
B.C.’s vehicle rebates
Individuals leasing or buying a new electric vehicle in B.C. are eligible for up to $4,000 off the after-tax vehicle price, thanks to the Government of B.C.’s CleanBC Go Electric program.
Here’s the breakdown of the incentive amounts for the purchase or lease of each vehicle type:
- Up to $4,000 for the purchase or lease of a new battery electric vehicle (BEV) or extended-range (ER)-EV.
- Up to $2,000 for the purchase or lease of a new plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV).
- Up to $4,000 for the purchase or lease of a hydrogen fuel-cell vehicle (FCEV).
Cars (including two seaters, compacts, mid-sizes, and large cars) with an MSRP of more than $55,000 are not eligible for the incentive. Larger vehicles with an MSRP of more than $70,000 are not eligible.
How do I qualify for the rebate?

If you have an income of $100,001 and above, you’re not eligible for a rebate. Pre-approval for a rebate is required before buying your EV.
Individuals can only get a rebate once in their lifetime and there are different eligibility requirements if the purchase is made by a business, non-profit or government organization.
What happens after I’m pre-approved?
You have a year to use your rebate once your application is approved. Once you’re ready to make a purchase, visit your local EV dealership.
Your rebate pre-approval will be tied to your B.C. driver’s licence and will be applied when you purchase a vehicle.
Which vehicles qualify for the up-to-$4,000 rebate?
The BC Ministry of Energy, Mines and Low Carbon Innovation has established incentive amounts based on vehicle type and battery capacity. Battery electric vehicles and extended-range (ER) EVs, fuel-cell electric vehicles (FCEVs) and plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) with an electric range of 85 km or greater are eligible for the full incentive amount up to $4,000, while plug-in hybrids with an electric range of less than 85 km are eligible for incentives up to $2,000.

Federal vehicle rebates
Get up to $5,000 off the purchase price of a new EV
There are additional incentives for purchasing an electric vehicle in Canada. Qualifying vehicles (battery electric and longer range plug-in hybrids) are also eligible for rebates from the federal government, ranging from $2,500 for most PHEVs up to $5,000 for BEVs and a few select PHEVs. Vehicles need to have a base model MSRP of $55,000 or less, with higher values qualifying for larger vehicle types.
Federal incentives are in addition to provincial rebates and are also applied at the point of sale. Pre-approval is not required.

SCRAP-IT
Check out SCRAP-IT incentives up to $500
The BC SCRAP-IT program offers incentives to use towards the cost of an EV or other low-carbon form of transportation when you scrap your existing gas-powered vehicle. The incentives apply to purchases of both new and used EVs.
Cash
$300 Cash Rebate when you scrap a qualifying vehicle.
Translink Pass
- 8 Month one (1) Zone Adult Monthly Pass ($820.40 value) or
- 14 Month three (3) Zone Concession Pass ($820.40 value) or
- 16 Month Stored Value Pass (16 months x $50.00 per month = $800.00 value)
This rebate is provided through a joint funding partnership between SCRAP-IT and TransLink.
BC Transit EcoPass
An 11 month ECOPASS ($935 value) valid on the Victoria Regional Transit System.
This rebate is provided through a joint funding partnership between SCRAP-IT and BC Transit.
Car Share Credit
A $500 credit with one of the following organizations:
- Modo
- Evo
- Kootenay Carshare Co-op
- Coast Car Co-Op
- Spark Car Share (Invermere)
Non-Qualifiers $100
A $100 cash rebate when you scrap a vehicle that does not qualify for our program.
