EV Incentives in BC

Explore rebates for new EVs and chargers

Switching to an EV comes with many benefits, and the current financial rebates are a good incentive to take the plunge sooner rather than later.

Review the various EV rebates below to make sure you don’t miss out on the offers available to you. Remember to read up on the eligibility criteria of each program before making a purchase.

Charger Rebates

If you’re beginning to shop for a charger, learn about the features to consider when choosing an EV charger and how an electrician can help. Once you have an idea of what you’re looking for, view our database of EV chargers eligible for rebates to find a model that meets your needs and our rebate criteria.

Home EV Charger Rebate

CleanBC Go Electric EV Charger Rebate Program offers funding up to $350. The program is now accepting applications as of October 31, 2023.

B.C.’s vehicle rebates

Individuals leasing or buying a new electric vehicle in B.C. are eligible for up to $4,000 off the after-tax vehicle price, thanks to the Government of B.C.’s CleanBC Go Electric program.

Here’s the breakdown of the incentive amounts for the purchase or lease of each vehicle type:

  • Up to $4,000 for the purchase or lease of a new battery electric vehicle (BEV) or extended-range (ER)-EV.
  • Up to $2,000 for the purchase or lease of a new plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV).
  • Up to $4,000 for the purchase or lease of a hydrogen fuel-cell vehicle (FCEV).

Cars (including two seaters, compacts, mid-sizes, and large cars) with an MSRP of more than $55,000 are not eligible for the incentive. Larger vehicles with an MSRP of more than $70,000 are not eligible.

How do I qualify for the rebate?

To apply for a rebate, you must be a B.C. resident with a valid B.C. driver’s licence.
The rebate amount is based on your total gross annual income and the type of vehicle you’re buying.

Individual Income Rebate for BEVs and long-range PHEVs Rebate for PHEVs with less than 85km electric range
Less than $80,000 $4,000 $2,000
$80,001 - $90,000 $2,000 $1,000
$90,001 - $100,000 $1,000 $500
$100,001 or higher No rebate No rebate

If you have an income of $100,001 and above, you’re not eligible for a rebate. Pre-approval for a rebate is required before buying your EV.

Individuals can only get a rebate once in their lifetime and there are different eligibility requirements if the purchase is made by a business, non-profit or government organization.

What happens after I’m pre-approved?

You have a year to use your rebate once your application is approved. Once you’re ready to make a purchase, visit your local EV dealership.

Your rebate pre-approval will be tied to your B.C. driver’s licence and will be applied when you purchase a vehicle.

Which vehicles qualify for the up-to-$4,000 rebate?

Federal vehicle rebates

Get up to $5,000 off the purchase price of a new EV

There are additional incentives for purchasing an electric vehicle in Canada. Qualifying vehicles (battery electric and longer range plug-in hybrids) are also eligible for rebates from the federal government, ranging from $2,500 for most PHEVs up to $5,000 for BEVs and a few select PHEVs. Vehicles need to have a base model MSRP of $55,000 or less, with higher values qualifying for larger vehicle types.

Federal incentives are in addition to provincial rebates and are also applied at the point of sale. Pre-approval is not required.
